Elden Ring: Shadow of the Earthtree Winter Lantern/Aging, Untouchable Place
First, let’s talk about where the winter lanterns actually are. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Earth TreeThey can be found in the Abyssal Woods area and can be seen patrolling the entire swamp area.
To get to the Abyssal Woods, you’ll need to interact with the hidden coffin in the Shadow Keep, which will take you to a new part of the Scadu Altus region. From there, continue following the river south until you reach the Darklight Catacombs. After clearing this area and defeating the boss, you’ll unlock the abandoned Site of Grace cemetery and can head to the Abyssal Woods from there.
How to kill the enemies of the Winter Lantern Brain
Similar to their rough counterparts in Blood transfusedthose winter lanterns from the Abyssal Forest will infect you with madness when they spot you and when you approach them, meaning you can’t just fight them head-on, even if you have a decent resistance to madness.
The only reliable way to kill them is to block their attack as soon as they try to hit you with their hands. This will stun them, allowing you to kill them very easily. As far as I can tell, this is the only way to deal with them, aside from just running away.
Winter Lantern Enemy Drops
Killing these enemies will reward you with either a Swollen Grape, which is a crafting material, or the Elder’s Cheerful Talisman. The talisman has the following description:
‘A talisman depicting the joy of the aging Untouchable, whose head resembles a branch of ripe grapes. Increases attack power when Madness is triggered nearby. “Give your madness to our lord. Bless our brothers with grapes. Make sure they ripen fully.”‘
