Apple TV+ continues to grow in the US and overtakes Paramount+

Apple announced new content coming to Apple TV+ later this year during WWDC 2024, including new seasons of Severance, Silo, and Pachinko. And it looks like Apple’s efforts are paying off, as TV+’s market share grew again in the U.S. last quarter.

Market shares of streaming platforms in the USA

A JustWatch report first shared with 9to5Mac shows that Apple TV+ saw a 1% increase in the US streaming platform’s market share in the second quarter of 2024 and now has a 9% market share. The platform had already grown by 1% in the first quarter, reaching an 8% share. Although the growth may seem slow, the numbers are positive for Apple.

Apple TV+ has overtaken Paramount+ in the US with a 9% market share and is moving closer to Hulu with 10% and Disney+ with 11% market share.

“We have seen some changes in TV+, it has an overall increase in market share as well as several pieces of original content that ranked in our streaming charts this quarter. AppleTV+ is now moving closer to Disney+ in terms of size in the US SVOD market,” said JustWatch 9to5Mac.

Amazon Prime Video and Netflix continue to fight fiercely for first and second place in the rankings, each with a 22% market share in the US. However, while Netflix has seen slight growth, JustWatch notes that Amazon Prime Video has struggled to hold on to the top spot.

More about Apple TV+

Apple TV+ was launched in 2019 with a small catalog of original films and series. There are currently around 271 titles available on the platform – significantly fewer than the 13,000 titles available on Amazon Prime Video. Nevertheless, TV+’s content has already won several major awards since 2019.

According to a recent study, TV+ is the streaming platform with the highest-rated content on IMDb, despite having the smallest catalog of all.

Apple’s streaming platform is available via the TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and compatible smart TVs and set-top boxes. The TV app is also available on the latest PlayStation and Xbox models.
