Why plastic baits are essential for crayfish

Plastic crawfish lures are a staple in Welcher’s tackle box because of their versatility. Think about it! Crayfish live in most waters across the country, so they’re always on the menu. These lures can be attached as trailers to any type of jig or buzzbaits, or fished individually as a Texas rig. And more importantly, they’re extremely attractive to all types of bass.

VERSATILE USE OF PLASTIC BAITS FOR LAND CRAB

Which explains that plastic baits for crayfish can be used in several ways:

  • As a standalone bait: Perfect for flipping and pitching.
  • As a jig trailer when jig fishing: Provides additional movement and attractiveness.
  • For Carolina rigs: Ideal due to the smaller profile, but with a noticeable kick action.

COLOUR SELECTION FOR DIFFERENT CONDITIONS

Although crayfish are found almost everywhere, they vary greatly in appearance. Coloration varies even within the same species depending on water clarity, depth and molt stage. Choosing the right color can be critical to success. Which makes it easy with a handful of basic rules:

  • Black and blue/green pumpkin: Ideal for colored water.
  • Green Pumpkin and Chartreuse: Mimics the sunfish and works well in lightly colored water.

WHY RAPALA CRUSHCITY CLEANUP CRAW IS EXCELLENT

The Rapala CrushCity Cleanup Craw has become one of Welcher’s favorites. He is a big fan of its smaller 3.5-inch profile that still offers considerable attraction. The design of this lure makes it perfect for:

  • Flipping: Its smaller size and kicking motion make it effective in and around cover.
  • Vibrating jigs in muddy water: Provides excellent buoyancy and vibration characteristics.

The importance of versatile baits

Which emphasizes the importance of having versatile lures in the boat. With limited space, it is important to have lures that can be used for multiple purposes. Plastic crayfish lures meet this requirement perfectly and are a valuable addition to any angler’s tackle box while making the most of your limited space.
