King Charles has two sons, two stepchildren, five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
“He always seemed not quite ready for parenthood – the responsibility, the patience, the time. Even he, a proud man though he was, would have admitted that. But being a single parent? Pa was never cut out for that,” Prince Harry wrote in his memoirs. Spare part. “To be honest, he tried. In the evening I called down the stairs: Go to bed, Pa! He always called back happily: I’ll be right there, my darling! He kept his word and minutes later was sitting on the edge of my bed. He never forgot that I didn’t like the dark, so he would gently tickle my face until I fell asleep. I have the most wonderful memories of his hands on my cheeks, my forehead, and then waking up to find that he had magically disappeared, the door always thoughtfully left ajar.”
That’s Charles as a father – but what about him as an uncle?
Charles has three siblings (Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward) and Camilla has a sister, Annabel Elliot, and a brother, Mark Shand, who tragically passed away in 2014. All of Charles and Camilla’s siblings have children, making them aunt and uncle to ten people between the ages of 15 and 47.
