How to style Crocs Dylan Platform Clogs

I used to be a Crocs hater.

I’m sorry, it’s true, but I was 19 and had strong opinions. I liked what I liked and I hated what I hated. Even though people claimed they were comfortable, I couldn’t get over how they looked, so I refused to ever wear them. Now that I’m an old millennial, comfort is my number one priority, and needless to say, I quickly (and happily) jumped on the Crocs bandwagon.

I have a growing Crocs collection, including a few pairs of platform shoes, so the Dylan Platform Clog immediately caught my eye. I’m all for anything that makes me taller (little queen size shoe issues) and these have a 2.2″ platform sole.

Now, if you’re looking at these shoes and thinking, “They don’t look that great, how can I make these comfortable shoes cute?”, it’s all about style and confidence. (Also, just wear whatever you want.)

I have the Dylan in lava, which is bright orange, and I admit that the color isn’t for everyone. The shoes also come in white, black, and wheat if you want a more neutral shoe. These will certainly fit better into your wardrobe, but what I love about lava is that it adds that touch of fun to an outfit. If I’m going to wear a chunky shoe (yes, chunky), I might as well go all out with the color, you know?

I’ve experimented with styling these controversial shoes for a few different occasions to give you some ideas on how to wear them in your own world.

Outfit 1: Garden Party

I don’t really follow fashion rules—I wear navy and black, I wear horizontal stripes even though a boy in seventh grade told me I looked fat in them, and I wear all the things that Generation Z tells me are “wrong.”

So of course I have no problem pairing these casual bright orange shoes with a smart all-white two-piece for a garden party look. I love that contrast. But to avoid pushing it too far into the “that doesn’t match” territory, I chose a set with cotton eyelets so it still feels a little informal.

The shoes added the pop of color that the outfit called for. I wanted to try a solid color outfit with the shoes and opted for white for the summer instead of another color. Black could have pushed me into Halloween territory, which I just didn’t feel like doing.

Outfit 2: Running errands

Let’s face it, the errands outfit is the easiest way to style Dylan. You can put together anything you want. I originally wanted to wear yoga pants, but it was 90 degrees in New Jersey, so I opted for bike shorts instead. A sky blue pair matched the orange shoes perfectly (it’s all about the color palette here), and a white t-shirt completed the look.

I wear these shoes for shopping, walks to the post office, and trips to the train station to pick up my out-of-town friends. They are great loafers for any situation.

I was initially concerned about riding on these platforms, but then I realized that I Am a millennial and wore sequined foam platform flip flops every day of the week in high school (except for the days I wore my flame-studded platform sneakers). Real people know exactly what shoes I’m talking about. Needless to say, driving in these Crocs was a breeze.

Outfit 3: Relaxed day off

For an in-between look, jeans are an easy option. I maintain that jeans go with anything and everything. Since this is such a statement shoe, I tried to avoid a tapered leg and instead went for a wider leg. For the top, I went for a contrasting pop of color to match the orange and keep the summery theme alive.

Is there anything you can’t love?

I will admit that my feet do sweat in these shoes, but that is entirely my problem since I didn’t wear socks with them. They also make a bit of a “farting” sound because the skin on your feet rubs against the unique Croslite material – another problem that can be solved with socks. So all in all, these two problems are my problem and not Crocs’.
