Lightning makes seven picks on the second day of the 2024 NHL Draft

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning selected seven players today during the second day of the 2024 NHL Draft at The Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Lightning’s 2024 Draft is presented by Florida Blue.

Tampa Bay traded Tanner Jeannot to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick (118th overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft to select defenseman Jan Golicic from the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. The 6-foot-6, 196-pound defenseman played 65 regular season games for Gatineau last season, scoring three goals and 29 points. A native of Jesenice, Slovenia, Golicic ranked first among Gatineau defensemen in assists (26) and second in points. Golicic is the first Slovenian player in franchise history to be drafted by the Lightning.

In the fourth round, the Lightning selected forward Hagen Burrows out of Minnetonka High School in Minnesota with the 128th overall pick. Burrows, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound winger, played last season between Minnetonka High School and the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League. In 28 games with Minnetonka High School, Burrows scored 19 goals and 59 points, while in 25 games with the Musketeers he scored nine goals and 22 points. Burrows was born in Orono, Minnesota, and has committed to play college hockey at the University of Denver.

With the 149th pick overall, the Lightning selected forward Joona Saarelainen from KalPa of the Finnish junior league. A native of Mikkeli, Finland, Saarelainen scored 13 goals and 36 points in 41 games last season as KalPa’s alternate captain. The 5’9″, 185lb center represented Finland as an alternate captain at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, scoring three goals and four points in five games.

Tampa Bay used its only pick in the sixth round, 181st overall, to select forward Kaden Pitre from the Ontario Hockey League’s Flint Firebirds. Pitre, 18, scored 10 goals and 30 points in 35 games in his second OHL season with Flint in 2023-24. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound center, a native of Stouffville, Ontario, ranked ninth among Flint’s forwards in goal scoring last season.

The Lightning selected forward Joe Connor of the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks 195th overall. The 5’10”, 175-pound forward scored 31 goals and 60 points in 50 games for Muskegon last season, ranking fourth among all Lumberjacks players in scoring. Connor was Muskegon’s best player with four points on the shorthanded and ranked third with nine power play goals.

Tampa Bay acquired the 199th pick in the 2024 NHL Draft in a trade that sent Mikhail Sergachev to the Utah Hockey Club. The Lightning used the pick to select forward Noah Steen from Mora IK of the HockeyAllsvenskan. The 6’1″, 195-pound Steen scored 14 goals and 17 points in 40 games for Mora IK last season. He also appeared in 12 qualifying games for Mora IK, scoring one goal and five points. Steen is a native of Oslo, Norway, and is the first player from Norway to be drafted in Lightning history.

With its final pick in the draft, 206th overall, Tampa Bay selected goaltender Harrison Meneghin from the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League. Meneghin, 19, appeared in 53 games for Lethbridge in 2023-24, posting a record of 27-20-5 with three shutouts, a 2.59 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound goaltender was named to the WHL’s First All-Star Team last season.
