Tour de France, Stage 2, live – Can Pogačar take his first overall victory on the challenging route to Bologna?

A look at the profile of stage 2. Not as tough as yesterday’s 3,600+ metres of climbing, but there are steeper climbs and they peak closer to the finish in Bologna, giving the guys in the general classification a better chance of making it if they can leave their rivals behind.

Visma-Lease a Bike is ready for the second stage after Vingegaard and Van Aert successfully returned to Tour de France level yesterday.

Today we could see the ‘big four’ of Tadej Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel and Primož Roglič go head to head for the first time on the explosive San Luca climb. Pogačar will no doubt be keen to test the legs of the trio, who all struggled with injuries during the April-May period when he dominated the Giro.

In Cesenatico it is time for the team presentation and registration for the second stage. The temperatures are still over 30 degrees, but not quite as bad as the heat of the first stage.

After a great first day, DSM-Firmenich PostNL will have the pleasure of wearing two of the Tour’s classification jerseys (although they were in the lead three times), with Bardet wearing the yellow jersey for the first time in his career and neo-pro Van Den Broek wearing the green points jersey.
