Marquette man found guilty of premeditated murder of his wife

AURORA, Nebraska (KSNB) – A Hamilton County jury has found Jeffrey Adams guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his wife. The 48-year-old Marquette man is accused of killing Angela Adams in February 2023. On Tuesday, Jeffrey Adams and his son Tanner Adams told the jury what they remembered from the night of Angela Adams’ death.

During his testimony, Tanner Adams said he remembered the argument between his father and stepmother starting outside the house before they played video games. Jeffrey Adams said he did not remember the strangulation but did not deny that it could have happened due to his heavy drinking.

In closing arguments, the defense said Jeffrey Adams never intended to kill his wife, Angela Adams. He said this was manslaughter because he lost his temper. The prosecution said there was more than one act of violence involving strangulation and alcohol and his actions were premeditated because he had time to calm down.

The prosecution also bases its argument on Angela Adams’ autopsy report and the fact that Jeffrey Adams changed his sweatshirt. Investigators never found the sweatshirt Jeffrey Adams was wearing the night of Angela Adams’ death, but they did find that it was in a Walmart parking lot at 8 a.m. the morning Angela Adams was found dead.

The verdict will be announced on October 17.
