Stellantis continues global rollout of connected car features

Stellantis is introducing several software products and connected features for its vehicles worldwide.

The automaker, whose 14 brands include Chrysler, Fiat and Peugeot, aims to improve its customers’ mobility experience and increase its sales of software and connected services, Stellantis said in a press release on Thursday (June 13).

“In just over two years, we have made a decisive shift from the traditional automotive industry mindset to a way of working that is much more like that of a start-up company, with a strong focus on speed and building our own software creation capabilities,” said Yves Bonnefont, chief software officer at Stellantis, in the press release.

One of the automaker’s latest offerings is a virtual assistant enhanced with ChatGPT that can communicate with customers in natural language, the press release said. After a pilot project in October 2023, it is scheduled to be launched in 20 European countries by the end of 2024.

Another recently launched product is AppMarket, an in-vehicle hub for services and experiences that allows drivers to purchase subscriptions in the vehicle, the press release said. AppMarket is available in North America, and a similar service is offered in Europe.

A third new offering, e-Routes, is a mobile app that uses real-time vehicle data to enable route planning for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plan charging stops, the statement said. E-Routes is available in Europe and will be rolled out globally this year.

According to the press release, Stellantis’ other connected features include Free2move Connect Fleet and MyTasks, which provide commercial vehicle users with live data on vehicle health, vehicle location and other work vehicle-related tasks.

Stellantis currently has a monetizable fleet of 13.8 million connected vehicles worldwide, the statement said. In 2023, the automaker delivered 94 million over-the-air (OTA) updates and recorded a user base of over 5 million subscription-based products.

“Stellantis develops connected services and software-enabled features for individual and fleet customers under the philosophy ‘Make my journey safer, make my life easier and make my drive more exciting,'” the automaker said in the press release.

According to “Reshaping Global Business With Connected Vehicles,” a collaboration between PYMNTS Intelligence and American Express, the global automotive software market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15% through the end of the decade.
