Satechi’s new Qi2 15W wireless car charger mount launches today

Today, Satechi is introducing its new Qi2 wireless car charger. After launching its Qi2 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 MagSafe charging stations, Satechi is now bringing the new 15W charging standard to your car with its new magnetic car mount. While it’s not the first car mount of its kind to feature the new Qi2 charging technology, it’s the brand’s first. Twice as powerful as the previous generation, it’s a reliable companion for travelers on road trips, daily commutes, and pretty much everything in between. Now available directly from the brand’s official website and Amazon. You can find more details and first hands-on impressions below.

Satechi’s new Qi2 15W wireless car charger – Here are my first hands-on impressions

As the name suggests, the new Satechi Qi2 wireless car charger is just that: the brand’s latest wireless car mount with the new charging standard that delivers twice the power to your device than traditional Qi devices. It comes with a 1 meter USB-C cable that easily plugs into the bottom of the charging pad on one end and your vehicle on the other (it also comes with a 25W CLA cigarette lighter adapter) to deliver 15W of power to your phone.

  • 15W wireless charging with Qi2 certification
  • MagSafe compatibility
  • Stabilizing ventilation clamp and magnetic connection
  • Includes a 10cm USB-C cable and a 25W cigarette lighter adapter (CLA)
  • Slim profile, a soft silicone charging puck and sturdy hinges

Smooth Space Grey and Silicone

In terms of build and form factor. It’s immediately clear that when you unbox it, you’re looking at a piece of Satechi accessories – a space gray charging cradle with soft silicone covering the magnetic landing surface, attached to a ball joint with a sort of dual vent clip. It looks pretty, gets the job done, and while it’s certainly not the heaviest, most robust metal option we’ve tested, it stays in place even in bumpy road conditions (at least in my limited testing over the past few days).

I guess part of me expected the whole unit to feel a bit sturdier and have more weight when I first saw it. But sometimes the weight of these things can lead to more aggressive bouncing over rough road conditions, which can put more stress on both the clamp and the vents, so it’s probably a good thing Satechi went with a lighter design here.

The top of the Space Gray device, which features smooth lines and a rounded form factor, sports a soft silicone charging puck that’s designed to protect your device from scratches while also preventing the device from cracking over time. The whole thing is magnetic, as described above, and works well with my iPhone 15 Pro and the leather case from SANDMARC that I happened to have wrapped around it at the time.

There’s a subtle Satechi logo on the front of the charger, which isn’t subtle enough for me, but Satechi knows how to put a logo on things. I wish it was smaller or maybe not there at all, but it’s clean typography thoughtfully placed on the device where you won’t see it anyway when your phone is lying in it.

Adjustable MagSafe viewing angles

The MagSafe charging pad is connected to a dual vent clip via a ball joint. This ball joint allows the mount to be easily but firmly adjusted to virtually any usable angle with one hand, while the dual clip – I call it that, but it’s actually more of a single clamp clip with a second adjustable arm to support things and ensure a more reliable clamp to your vent blades – keeps it in place. It snaps securely and quickly into place within a few seconds.

The new Satechi Qi2 15W wireless car charger is compatible with the iPhone 12 up to the latest Apple mobile phones, and will also work with other Qi2-enabled devices as long as you already have an appropriate magnetic case or ring.

The new Satechi Qi2 wireless car charger is now available at $59.99 ready to ship via the official website and on Amazon with Prime shipping.

Although I’ve only had a few days to try it out, so far I’m impressed with its fast charging capability, attractive design, and overall functionality. There will be another test in the next week or so to make sure it holds up over time in real-world conditions, but it’s hard to imagine anything from Satechi not living up to expectations right now.
