Hot, stormy weather with deteriorating air quality continues in the Detroit metropolitan area

4Warn Weather – Northern Hemisphere summer officially began this afternoon with hot, humid and stormy weather in southeast Michigan.

The possibility of severe storms and flooding remains this evening.

The biggest concerns are the potential for gusty winds, hail and heavy rain as the storms move east and east-southeast at 10 to 20 mph (16 to 32 km/h).

Flooding has already been observed in several communities. The depth of standing water can be difficult to estimate, and cars may be moving in as little as 12 inches of water. Be aware of standing water on roads and the possibility of rising water levels in streams.

A heat advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. tonight in Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee and Monroe counties.

The showers and thunderstorms will mostly stop before midnight. After that it will be partly to mostly cloudy. The lowest temperatures will be between 18 and 21 degrees. The wind without thunderstorms will come from the northeast at about 8 km/h.

Friday

An air quality warning is in effect for Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair, Washtenaw, Wayne and Monroe counties tomorrow through Friday evening as elevated ozone levels are forecast. The air is expected to be “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” including people with respiratory conditions, infants and the elderly.

Due to increased ozone levels, an air quality warning is in effect for much of southeast Michigan until Friday evening. There is a risk that the air will be “unhealthy for sensitive groups.” (WDIV)

It will be partly cloudy and hot, with the possibility of more showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening. Highs will again be around 90 degrees. If highs reach 90 degrees at Metro Airport, it would be the fifth day of the heat wave that began Monday.

When the rain showers and thunderstorms cease on Friday evening, the region will be left with partly cloudy skies and temperatures will drop to around 21 degrees.

The overnight relief will be short-lived, however. The heat will intensify as a warm front moves northward across the area, bringing even hotter air for Saturday.

Saturday

On Saturday, the sky will be partly cloudy, with the possibility of some showers or thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures will be between 35 and 35 degrees.

Sunday

On Sunday, temperatures will drop a few degrees as a cold front brings less humid air, but there is also the possibility of showers and thunderstorms in the morning and early afternoon. Highs will be between 30 and 32 degrees.

Next week the weather will remain active with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms. It will be hot, but temperatures will be more bearable.
