Still, this nod to FromSoftware’s other great RPG is a fun little Easter egg, and if you’re looking to add it to your Elden Ring build, read on below.

We tell you where to find the Blade of Mercy in the shadow of the Earth Tree and show you exactly how to reach the exact location in the DLC.

Where to get the Blade of Mercy in the Shadow of the Earth Tree

The good news is that you can find the Blade of Mercy very early on in Shadow of the Erdtree—in fact, within minutes of the Elden Ring DLC launching, and it’s one of the first things we recommend doing when you enter the Shadow Realm.

The Blade of Mercy is located at the top of the Burnt ruins in Gravesite Plain, just north of where you come out of the starting cave (this is also where you’ll find the Gravesite Plain map fragment, so remember to pick it up on the way there as well).

You can see the exact location on the map below:

Getting to the top of the Scorched Ruins does require a bit of research, though. To begin the climb, you’ll need to find the stairs inside one of the dilapidated buildings that will take you to the roof. You can find them by heading south from the Scorched Ruins Site of Grace and then turning right:

The building you’re looking for is the one immediately to your right. After taking care of the phantom dog behind the pots, you’ll find the stairs leading up to the roof:

You will then need to jump over the red cloth on the roof into another gap in the wall to your left – from here, more phantoms will start throwing rocks at you, but you can easily take out these enemies and continue on to the other side of the building.

You will see a large red curtain stretching across the ruins. You can jump up and run on it to get to the other side of the burnt ruins. Ahead of you, you will see a conspicuous row of pillars and a closed door in the tower.

You don’t need a key to open the door, just walk up to the door and push it open. Blade of Mercy will be in the treasure chest inside.

Congratulations! You have now found the Blade of Mercy in the shadow of the Earth Tree. This talisman increases attack power after each critical hitmaking it a good choice for melee builds.

If you were hoping for Bloodborne references in the Blade of Mercy item description, you’ll be sadly disappointed. Not only does Blade of Mercy look very different from its Bloodborne counterpart, but the Elden Ring version also states that the NPC Hornsent “used it to honorably end the suffering of a fellow countryman” during his travels and that “after costing numerous lives, the dagger is now shattered but has acquired a special aura.”

Hornsent is one of the Shadow of the Erdtree side quest NPCs that you can meet very close to the Scorched Ruins, at the Site of Grace “Three-Path Cross”. When you talk to him, he will also give you a map of the first three locations of Miquell’s Cross, which you must follow as part of the main story.

That’s everything you need to know about Elden Ring’s Blade of Mercy in Shadow of the Erdtree, so feel free to continue your adventures in the Shadow Realm when you’re done here.
