‘You see a lot of anger’: Video shows vandal smashing windows of Venetian Islands home – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – A homeowner in the Venetian Islands said he no longer feels safe after a camera caught a brazen vandal smashing his window a day earlier.

Speaking to 7News on Friday, the homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous and not show his face on camera, said this was the first time he had experienced anything like this and hoped it would be the last.

When asked how he felt when he saw the horrifying surveillance footage, the homeowner said, “This feeling will definitely stay with us.”

The homeowner said the brazen attack took place Thursday evening in his absence.

“It’s scary because when you think of home, you think, ‘Oh, I just want to get away,’ to a safe place,” he said.

The homeowner said the suspect showed up at his home on North Venetian Drive around 9 p.m. and began smashing the front window.

“He tried to completely destroy it, kicked it a few times and then gave up and decided to walk away,” he said.

The homeowner said he was unsure if the vandalism was a random attack or an unsuccessful burglary attempt.

“I’ve tried to imagine what happened, but I can’t think of anything,” he said. “I’ve talked to the neighbors, I’ve talked to the police, and they said they’re still investigating, but we don’t really know.”

Detectives from the Miami City Police Department arrived at the home around 9:45 p.m. They said it did not appear that anything had been stolen and that they now needed to investigate the strange, frightening incident.

The homeowner now lives with increased caution, but tries not to worry.

“I’m thankful that neither I nor my family were here at the time of the incident. In the footage you can see a lot of anger in the person, so I’m just thankful we weren’t here,” he said.

Police have not released any further details as they try to determine who targeted this home and why.

If you have any information about this incident or the whereabouts of the person, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
