Man and 5-year-old seriously injured in triple-car collision in rural Douglas County

A man and a five-year-old child were seriously injured in a three-car collision in rural northwest Douglas County on Friday evening.

The accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Nebraska Highway 36 and 300th Street, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Two minivans – a Chrysler Town & Country and a Toyota Sienna – and a Dodge Durango SUV were involved.

The minivans were traveling east on Highway 36. The preliminary investigation shows the Town & Country rear-ended the Sienna, according to the sheriff’s office. The Town & Country then came to a stop in the westbound lane of Highway 36, where it was struck by the Durango.

A 5-year-old girl riding in the Sienna was taken to Children’s Hospital by the Valley Fire Department. The man driving the Town & Country was taken to Bergan Mercy Medical Center by the Waterloo Fire Department. The sheriff’s office did not release the names of the people involved in the crash as of Saturday afternoon.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the collision, but the accident remained under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
