Heat warning in effect again today for large parts of Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. – Heat warning valid again today until 8 p.m.

There will be sunshine during the day, but also more clouds. It will be hot again, with highs between 35 and 38 degrees. However, it will become more humid, so the heat index will be above 38 degrees. A heat warning is in place for the entire region until this evening, and in some places the heat index will be above 40 degrees. Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening. Most places will remain dry, but the approaching thunderstorms may bring showers and gusty winds.

There is a greater chance of a few isolated thunderstorms overnight, especially north of I-64. It will be muggy with lows in the 70s to 80s.

Monday will still be hot, but humidity will decrease as a cold front passes south of us. Highs will be between 90 and 95 degrees. A few thunderstorms are possible during the day, especially southeast of Richmond.

Tuesday will be sunny with maximum temperatures around 35 degrees.

Heat and humidity will increase again on Wednesday, with highs in the 90s and a possible heat index of 100 degrees again. Some thunderstorms are possible, especially in northern and northwestern Virginia.

Another cold front will bring isolated thunderstorms overnight into Wednesday, some of which will last until Thursday.

Behind this front, humidity will be lower on Friday, but maximum temperatures will still be just over 35 degrees.

Heat and humidity will increase again next weekend, with highs between 35 and 35 degrees Celsius.

Parts of the state are now more than three inches below normal for June rainfall. The latest drought monitor shows 96% of Virginia is “abnormally dry,” and within the last week a quarter of the state was classified as “moderately dry.” This includes parts of the East Coast and areas well west of I-95.
