Murder suspect arrested after killing clerk at Fast Stop Superette in Leesburg

LEESBURG, Florida. – A wanted man involved in a fatal robbery at a Leesburg supermarket was finally arrested Wednesday evening, police said.

Police said the man – Alex Lopez, 25 – was arrested near Kissimmee around 7 p.m.

Lopez is accused of shooting 51-year-old store clerk Raied “Ray” Shihadeh at the Fast Stop Superette on Picciola Road nearly a month ago.

Although he was taken to hospital, Shihadeh succumbed to his injuries, triggering a massive manhunt for his killer.

Lopez was identified as a suspect just a few days later, but police said they were unable to immediately locate his whereabouts.

But thanks to investigators from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Lopez was finally arrested, police said.

“We hope that the search for Lopez will bring justice to the victim’s family,” police wrote on Wednesday. “We thank the public who has provided us with a wealth of information and helped make this possible.”

According to police, Lopez is charged with murder, armed robbery, possession of a firearm as a felon and use of a firearm during a crime.

No further information has been provided at this time, but police said they “hope” to provide more details on Thursday.
