Woman is being investigated for murder

Nurse arrested, Texas, 20 deaths

Regla Becquer, owner of Love and Caring for People, may be involved in more deaths in her facilities

A Texan woman who owns unlicensed nursing homes was arrested and charged with murder after one of the residents died earlier this year. Now Arlington police are investigating at least 20 other deaths that occurred at her facilities.

Accordingly NBC NewsRegla “Su” Becquer, owner of Love and Caring for People LLC, was charged with murder in the January death of Steven Pankratz. Tarrant County court records show she remains in custody with two bonds totaling $750,000.

“We have allegations of abuse, theft and fraud by Miss Becquer and her company,” said Kelly Land, a crisis intervention specialist with the Arlington Police Department. “The stories we have heard from clients and their families are disturbing, heartbreaking and unimaginable, and we are determined to bring justice to the families and victims.”

The Tarrant County Coroner ruled that Pankratz’s cause of death was mixed drug toxicity, with trace amounts of trazadone, tramadol and mirtazapine found in his body.

Arlington Police have launched an investigation into unlicensed housing communities owned by Becquer. Investigators have found that more than 20 of Becquer’s clients have died since September 2022.

Investigators also believe Becquer and her staff failed to provide proper care for clients. They allegedly denied clients medical care, attempted to cut off communication between clients and their families, made purchases using clients’ debit cards without their knowledge, and retained items belonging to their deceased clients, including phones and vehicles.

“We have learned of some very concerning things happening in these homes, and we want to make sure no victim falls through the cracks,” said Police Chief Al Jones. “If you or a loved one has spent time in one of these homes – or knows of other locations where this company may be operating from – we need to know. Fortunately, our investigation has resulted in several clients being removed from the homes so they can receive the care they need. But there may be others we need to help.”
