Tony DiNozzo was one of NCIS: Secret Service Stories‘ first main characters, who with Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Abby Sciuto and Ducky Mallard in the two HUNT episodes that served as a backdoor pilot for the show. After the death of Sasha Alexander’s Caitlin Todd in NCIS: Secret Service Stories In the season two finale, Ziva was introduced to David at the beginning of season three and took her place on the team. Over the next eight years, the two solved crimes together for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and developed a romantic tension that led fans to pair them together as “Tiva.”
It has been a long time since these two characters played a key role in the NCIS: Secret Service Stories Universe, but that’s about to change. In February 2024, it was announced that a streaming spinoff focusing on Tony and Ziva was in the works, and three months later it was given the fitting title NCIS: Tony and Ziva. Here are the key things we know so far about this upcoming TV show.
When is the premiere date of “NCIS: Tony and Ziva”?
Although NCIS: Tony and Ziva has no premiere date yetit’s safe to assume it won’t be released until 2025. Production isn’t set to begin until late summer, meaning the chances of it making it into the 2024 TV schedule are slim. As for a specific release date in 2025, spring or summer would be the most logical choices.
What “NCIS: Tony and Ziva” will be about
After faking her death and hiding for years, NCIS: Secret Service Stories In season 17, Ziva finally became a free woman again after the woman who had targeted her was killed. After the chaos was cleared up, Ziva traveled to Paris to reunite with Tony and her daughter Tali. That is where viewers will find her when NCIS: Tony and Ziva begins.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for their lives to get a lot more complicated. After Tony’s security company is attacked, he and Ziva must flee across Europe to find out who’s after them and, as the official synopsis states, “maybe even learn to trust each other again so they can finally have their unconventional happy ending.”
The cast of “NCIS: Tony and Ziva” includes Michael Weatherly and Cote De Pablo
It would be bizarre if NCIS: Tony and Ziva did not feature the two actors who originally played the roles, but we don’t have to worry about seeing such a strange twist. Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo will return to play Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, respectively. This is the first time these characters have been seen together on screen since the film. NCIS: Secret Service Stories The season 11 episode “Past, Present and Future” aired on October 1, 2013. This was de Pablo’s final episode as a series regular, and Weatherly left the main cast in the season 13 finale, “Family First.”
After being presumed dead at the end of season 13, Ziva made a surprise appearance in the season 16 finale, “Daughters,” and continued to appear throughout season 17. Tony briefly reappeared in the season 21 episode “The Stories We Leave Behind” to attend the memorial service for Ducky Mallard. It has been hinted that Cote de Pablo may appear again on NCIS in the near future, though it’s hard to say if this would help, NCIS: Tony and Ziva in some way.
The other characters expected to appear in NCIS: Tony and Ziva
When Tony learned of Tali’s existence, NCIS: Secret Service Stories In the finale of season 13, she was still a toddler. NCIS: Tony and Ziva begins, she will be a teenager, and Michael Weatherly has confirmed that she will play a major role in the spin-off. The actor said at the Monte Carlo TV Festival (via Deadline) that “every decision” the title characters “have to make on their adventure, their child is first and foremost at the forefront.” What hasn’t been clarified is whether Tali will accompany her parents on the run or if she will be accompanied to another location.
In addition, there are details about brand new characters in NCIS: Tony and Ziva have been announced. According to TVLine, “the role of a British nanny/bodyguard,” a “Russian hacker extraordinaire,” and a “French Interpol liaison.” Presumably, the nanny/bodyguard will be the person protecting Tali, but there is no clarification on whether these latter two characters will be allies or enemies of the main protagonists.
The series will be released exclusively on Paramount+
Unlike any other NCIS: Secret Service Stories Shows that come before it, including the Gibbs-centric prequel NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Tony and Ziva will not air on CBS. Instead, the series can be viewed exclusively with a Paramount+ subscription, the same streaming service that provides access to the other shows.
Speaking to Vulture, George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS and Chief Content Officer for News and Sports at Paramount+, said the reason NCIS: Tony and Ziva is being sent directly to Paramount+ instead of running on CBS, for two reasons. First, it felt “more like a serialized streaming show,” and second, it is an “example of us trying to expand the reach of NCIS,” as it does with Criminal Minds: Evolution.
Will other NCIS characters appear in the spinoff?
In March 2024, Deadline asked CBS Studios President David Stapf if there was a “possibility” that other NCIS characters, in addition to Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, could appear in NCIS: Tony and Zivaand he replied, “Honestly, not in the current conception, but you should never say never.” So don’t expect any special NCIS appearances in the spin-off in this first season.
Depending on how long the spinoff runs, there may still be an opportunity for the likes of Mark Harmon, Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen or Rocky Carroll to drop in (a revival of Pauley Perrette as Abby Sciuto seems less likely, as she has retired from acting). De Pablo also expressed interest in Rudolf Martin reprising Ari Haswari, Ziva’s deceased half-brother, as a ghost or hallucination.
More important details about NCIS: Tony and Ziva are shared with the public, we’ll add them here alongside our other coverage. Until then, check out the best Paramount+ shows available to stream now.
