You probably wouldn’t expect the superhero satire The young have a lot in common with history romantic comedy show My Lady Jane. However, they are similar in many ways. They both subvert the genres they are in, both are incredibly funny, both can be raunchy, and they share an executive producer/writer. Well, Eric Kripke, the creator of The youngcomments on Amazon Prime’s latest entry on the TV schedule 2024 while his show dominates and he encourages everyone to watch it in the most brand-appropriate way, which includes the phrase “Eat my ass” Bridgerton.”
At the moment, The young Season 4 dominates and is at the top of Prime Video’s top ten. People with Amazon Prime subscriptions can’t get enough of the super show and are surprised every week by unexpected (and often gross) stories. Now the series creator has a new recommendation for viewers and his argument – which he posted on X – is very convincing:
What do #TheBoys and #MyLadyJane have in common? A lot! Our brilliant EP @Merecuda (who wrote our Hamster EP!) created the show, packed with nudity, foul language, violence, punk rock vibes and heart. Kiss my ass, Bridgerton! WATCH IT! In view of My Lady Jane is a historical romance and Bridgerton Season 3 just dominated (and now the speculation about Bridgerton Season 4 has intensified in recent weeks), it makes sense why Kripke mentioned the regency romance when talking about Amazon’s latest addition. It is also important to note that he meant this as a compliment, as he was referring to a affected comment on X with:
I meant “lick my ass” in a positive sense
Overall, I think Kripke’s kind words are a very fitting way to My Lady Jane. The series is about Lady Jane Grey (who actually existed) who is forced into marriage and unexpectedly becomes queen. However, the series turns history on its head, and as the introduction states, although the story is told from her death shortly after the start of her reign, it is rewritten:
Jane could have been the leader England needed. But instead, history remembers her as the ultimate damsel in distress. Screw that. What if history had turned out differently?
The “fuck it” mentality makes The young And My Lady Jane in some ways. They share a sense of humor and love to subvert expectations. That’s partly because Meredith Glynn, the showrunner of the new Amazon romance, was also an executive producer and writer on Kripke’s shows.
Glynn and Kripke have known each other for a long time. She wrote 16 episodes and was executive producer of 86 episodes of Supernatural. She then continued her collaboration with him. The young — where she produced 13 episodes and wrote the third season’s “Glorious Five Year Plan.” Now she can apply everything she learned there to My Lady Jane as showrunner, EP and writer, and boy did she do a good job!
I love both projects because they turn their respective genres on their heads. They’re edgy, funny and irresistible, and I can’t get enough of them!
As someone who has seen everything My Lady Jane first season and The youngI really agree with Eric Kripke. Both shows are great and they are two of the best series on Amazon Primein my opinion. If you want to have fun, you should watch it. As Eric Kripke said, “WATCH IT!”
