President Joe Biden cannot escape calls to withdraw from the presidential election campaign

As reporters drove through the Hamptons with President Joe Biden for a fundraiser on Friday, they noticed people holding signs calling for the president to drop out of the race.

“Please get out for US,” read one sign, and another, “We love you, but it’s time,” according to a CNN report on the event.

A photo posted on X by Bloomberg reporter Amanda Gordon confirmed CNN’s report.

Reporters did not know whether Biden noticed the signs, but elsewhere they are unavoidable.

Despite the flood of comments, pleas and desperate calls to his advisers and the president himself after the debate, Biden stood firm and stayed in the race.

To exert additional pressure, some unconventional channels were opened.

Novelist and poet Jay Parini, a childhood friend and neighbor of Biden, wrote an open letter to the president on CNN’s opinion page titled “Dear Joe, It’s Time to Go.”

Like others, Parini appealed to the president, pointing to his advanced age and the fact that he perceives Donald Trump as an existential threat.

“I cried. I cried for you. I cried for our nation. You are a man of tremendous integrity, Joe, and you must – you MUST – resign. Do it for your country and your party. The danger that Trump, a fraud and conman, will be in office for another four years is existential,” Parini wrote.

It seems like the list of Joe Biden’s supporters is getting shorter by the day. Even longtime Biden supporter and Democratic strategist James Carville told Axios on Saturday, “What cannot go on will not go on.”
