Jim Carrey’s weirdest role isn’t what you think

Jim Carrey’s career spans nearly fifty years and in that time he has played many crazy roles, but the strangest one is a little surprising.

In The cable typeCarrey plays a man posing as Ernie “Chip” Douglas, a cable technician hired to install the reception at the home of Stephen (Matthew Broderick), a young single man in his thirties who has fallen out with his girlfriend Robin (Leslie Mann). Chip obsessively pushes Stephen into a friendship and won’t take no for an answer. Although the film has many humorous moments, Chip is portrayed as an antagonist as he stalks Stephen and causes major problems in his new “friend’s” life. In many ways, this was a departure from Carrey’s more well-known roles of the era.
