The incident occurred in the middle of an on-air segment that referenced the relationship between Olivia Dunne and Paul Skenes.

Things got a little awkward recently when Detroit Tigers commentators started talking about college gymnast Olivia Dunne shortly before her MLB friend Paul Skenes’ game against the team.
In the middle of a May 29 Bally Sports Detroit on-air segment in which Dunne and Skenes were billed as “the new power couple of Generation Z,” host Johnny Kane looked at his phone, prompting fellow host Trevor Thompson to ask, “What’s going on, man? Are you looking for Livvy Dunne?”
Carlos Pena, an analyst at Bally Sports Detroit, then quickly chimed in, adding, “She just gained another follower.” The exchange continued with Thompson asking Kane, “Are you going to follow her on all social media, Johnny?”
Kane then asked Thompson a question about the 21-year-old Dunne: “Are you interviewing Livvy in the stands today?” – to which Thompson smiled and replied: “If I see her, I’ll try to track her down. Let’s see if she comes with us to Bally Sports. Why not, right?”
Representatives for Bally Sports did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Although she has not addressed the incident with Bally Sports commentators, Dunne has been compelled to speak out when her fans have become too loud. In July 2023, Dunne addressed the criticism she received after “embarrassing” groups of boys caused safety issues at her gymnastics competitions at Louisiana State University.
Dunne told PEOPLE in November that LSU, given her large fan base, “really helped” her figure out how to keep herself safe during competitions.
“After the incident in Utah last year, we now have a security officer traveling with the LSU gymnastics team,” she said.

The gymnast, who just won the NCAA gymnastics championship at LSU and is considering returning to the school for a fifth season on the team, told PEOPLE in May that she had just bought a new house while her boyfriend Skenes is making waves as a rookie pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Dunne told PEOPLE that she hopes to attend many of Skenes’ games this summer, although given her busy schedule, it’s “not the easiest place to get to.”
“If it doesn’t mess up my schedule, then yes. I live very close by in New Jersey on the East Coast, but yes, I will definitely try to be there.”
