Portraying an iconic Mattel toy alongside Margot Robbie’s Barbie may be a new career high for Ryan Gosling, but before he was nominated for an Oscar and received critical acclaim, he was singing and dancing as the Mouseketeer.
That’s right, The Mickey Mouse Club was the beginning of Gosling’s rise to stardom. But over the years, the Canadian actor has developed a volatile relationship with Disney for a rather peculiar reason that may or may not be true.
Ryan Gosling has a “Love-hate” Relationship with Disney
If there’s one thing Ryan Gosling loves about Disney, it’s Disneyland. So much so that he’s visited the theme park more times than he can count, and many times alone (via Baby, This is Keke Palmer Podcast). But if there’s one thing he loathes about Disney, it has to do with the rodent that personifies the world-famous company.
Speaking to Conan O’Brien on his talk show, Gosling, 43, revealed a possible Disney theory that, if true, essentially dishonors the beloved Mickey Mouse. It is also this potentially bizarre side of the respected multimedia brand that has Barbie Star loves most (via YouTube).
Okay, I’ll give you an example of why I love and hate them (Disney). This – I don’t know if this is true or not, and I don’t want to be sued by Disney (…) There is a belief that Disney has bred an army of cats. Yes, and they are not ordinary cats, they have special abilities. They are like commando cats and live in a barracks (…) They live on the outskirts of the park (Disneyland) and at night, when the park closes, these cats come into the park under cover of darkness and eat all the mice.
So that’s what makes Disney sparkle in Gosling’s eyes – commando cats destroying the Disneyland mice because “(Disney) they are so strange and they think of everything,” he said. But that’s the irony.
The reason why Ryan Gosling hates Disney
The Mickey Mouse Club Alum noted that the face of Disney, the famous rodent that more or less represents the entirety of the brand, is ironically the least safe in the Happiest Place on Earth — at least if the commando cat theory is correct.
The crazy thing about this whole thing, the reason I hate it, is that the whole Disney empire is built on the back of a mouse (…) If you’re a mouse and you go into Disneyland, you’re not coming out alive.
Even the talk show host couldn’t help but agree LaLaLand Star. “It is a death sentence,” he said approvingly.
During Gosling’s time as a child star on The Mickey Mouse Club was a little “depressing,” (via Interview Magazine) He recently said that his experience as a Mouseketeer ultimately helped him land his Oscar-nominated role as Ken. “I was a hamster in the Mickey Mouse Club, just to find out. And all these ridiculous things. I could identify with Ken and the need to find yourself and stand out.” he told Variety.
