English football fans choose Glastonbury 2024 because “the atmosphere is much better”

English football fans and Glastonbury Festival spectators clashed on Sunday afternoon (30 June) as action on the pitch in Germany and action at Worthy Farm collided.

Gareth Southgate gave 19-year-old Kobbie Mainoo his England debut in the Euro 2024 round of 16 tie against Slovakia. Despite topping Group C, England produced three mediocre performances, but Southgate again resisted the temptation to make big substitutions, with Mainoo’s introduction being the only change.

The opening minutes of the game were marked by bookings and just as England were beginning to show some signs of life, they fell behind midway through the first half. A long ball forward was not blocked by the English defence and David Strelec played in Ivan Schranz, who scored his third goal of the final.

Meanwhile, the second half of the duel between England and Slovakia began and Avril Lavigne thrilled the audience at Glastonbury when she opened her set on the Other Stage with the hit “Girlfriend”.

The Canadian musician wore a kilt, fishnet tights and a black and red jacket as she performed in front of a packed crowd at Worthy Farm.

And those unsure whether to watch England or Avril Lavigne flocked to social media after making a decision. @rebecca_coxon said: “Turning off the England game to watch Avril Lavigne at Glastonbury makes the mood so much better.” @StuEvansMusic commented: “No changes at half time? Screw it, I’m watching Avril Lavigne #EURO2024 #ENGSVK #Glastonbury2024.”

This is 100% the better option.” @AnnaBrantPhoto posted: “I’m turning off the England game and tuning in to Avril Lavigne’s set at Glastonbury for the sake of my sanity.” @Gary_Gaz_Gazzy added: “I’m not watching England, I’m watching Avril Lavigne…bet I’m having more fun at #Glastonbury.”
