Tony Khan claims TV people would ‘kill’ to get AEW’s ratings

Tony Khan is not concerned about AEW’s recent decline in viewership.

His promotion has recently seen declining ratings, with the June 19 edition of Dynamite drawing just 502,000 viewers. But the man behind All Elite Wrestling isn’t fazed.

Speaking to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the AEW president addressed the ratings situation, stating that other TV shows would do anything to match his company’s ratings.

“We’ve had really strong numbers in the past and we’re maintaining those on TV, and that’s what we need to do: We need to keep doing what we’ve been doing because the numbers we have are numbers that people would kill for on TV. And I really need to focus on making good shows for AEW and not on what the competition is doing.

I think in this case it’s been positive for us and actually good for us that our competition has gotten ahead of us and done good deals for media rights because we have very good historical comparables and those comparables are very favorable to us. So that’s one thing I’ve done, a lot of market research and I’ve hired top analysts and data scientists and I’m looking at that stuff.”

“Most television shows would kill for our ratings and demos. And in sports, we are very young,” he continued.

Tony Khan announced that he would welcome Shane McMahon to AEW

Rumors have been circulating that Shane McMahon could become All Elite, and Khan has commented on the wild speculation.

In a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Khan addressed the rumors directly and made it clear that Shane McMahon would be welcome in his company.

“I’ve heard a rumor that he might be interested. I’ve never met Shane, but we have a lot of mutual friends. I have a lot of respect for him as an executive and as a professional wrestler. Shane is always welcome at AEW.”
