Katherine Heigl dispels a long-standing rumor about the rejection of an Emmy nomination for her work on Grey’s Anatomy.

The 45-year-old actress spoke with Shannen Doherty on the “Let’s Be Clear” podcast and revealed what really happened!

Read on to find out what Katherine Heigl said about that infamous moment…

“Well, I didn’t turn down an Emmy nomination and everyone keeps saying that. I didn’t turn it down,” Catherine said. “You know, you have to apply yourself. You have to submit your work and then they deliberate and decide whether you get nominated. I just didn’t submit my work this year… I shouldn’t have said anything. I should have said, ‘Oh, I forgot (to submit my work),’ because that caused such a fuss that was so unnecessary, and that’s really what it was.”

The rumor, which has been circulating since 2008, began when Catherine said: “I don’t think I’ve been given the material this season to warrant a nomination.”

Today she admits that she was simply being snappy.

“I wanted to be kind of snarky about my material this year, but I just didn’t feel good about my material. I didn’t think I had anything that was even worthy of a nomination. I just wasn’t proud of my work. I would never have been so bold or arrogant as to turn down a nomination. I would take the nomination if it came my way. I would be there. But I just knew that there was nothing that was really worthy of a nomination this year, and I tried to be honorable. I guess I tried to show some integrity. I didn’t want to be stupid.”

Catherine left the long-running ABC drama series in 2009. To find out what she thinks about her exit, click here!
