The best savings we found before Amazon’s July event

Amazon Prime Day 2024 is just around the corner, so you still have time to sign up for a free trial of Prime before the shopping event begins. However, in typical Amazon fashion, Prime Day deals are already starting to appear. The online retailer has made a habit of promoting early Prime Day deals in the run-up to the big event, most of which are exclusive to Prime members. However, there are always some good tech deals on Amazon that are available to everyone at the same time. We’ve rounded up the best early Prime Day deals here so you don’t have to search for them. We’ll be updating this post regularly, so check back to see the latest discounts.

Apple

A four-pack of Apple’s AirTags is currently on sale for $80, bringing the price down to just $20 each. We named the AirTag the best Bluetooth tracker for iPhone users in our guide to these tags, thanks to Apple’s massive search network that calls up any nearby iPhone to anonymously search for your lost belongings.

The latest stylus for iPads, the Apple Pencil Pro, is currently available on Amazon for $119. While that’s only $10 off the original price, it’s the first discount on the new accessory since it launched last month. The new Pencil Pro detects presses, which can trigger actions like bringing up app-specific tool palettes and keyboard shortcuts, and gives you haptic feedback as you use it. It can also detect barrel rolling for more precision when drawing.

Apple’s latest MacBook Pros are on sale: The 14.2-inch version is down to just $1,749 at Amazon and B&H for a configuration with the M3 Pro chip, 18GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD. That’s $250 less than Apple’s list price and $50 less than the street price we’ve seen at Amazon in recent months, though it’s $50 more than the lowest price we’ve tracked. The 16.2-inch model is also on sale for $2,199, which is an all-time low. This model has the same basic specs, but in addition to its roomier display, it has a slightly more powerful 12-core CPU (instead of the 11-core chip found on the 14-inch model) and an 18-core GPU (instead of a 14-core unit). Just keep in mind that we may or may not see new M4-based models by the end of the year.

If you’re an Amazon Prime member and have never subscribed before, you can now use the music streaming service for free for five months. If you’re a new user and don’t have a Prime subscription, you can get a three-month free trial. The service normally costs $10 per month for those who subscribe to Prime and $11 per month for those who don’t have a Prime subscription.

Music Unlimited isn’t an official recommendation in our guide to : its interface isn’t as clean or smartly curated as that of Apple Music, our top pick, and we found it to be a bit aggressive in promoting podcasts you might not be interested in. Still, it’s hard to be free, and the service has more or less the same huge music library as its competitors. Unlike Spotify, it also supports lossless streaming, which is a nice plus for audiophiles with quality wired headphones. If you’re just looking to save a bit of money on music streaming for a few months, it should do the job. Just remember to cancel when the free trial ends, as your subscription will default to auto-renewal.

Prime subscribers can now get Amazon’s Echo Dot Kids for $28, which is the lowest price we’ve ever seen. The smart speaker’s list price is technically $60, though we’ve seen it hover in the $35-$45 range several times over the past year.

As the name suggests, this is a kid-friendly take on Amazon’s small home speaker: It uses the same spherical hardware as the standard model, but comes with a cute owl or dragon design, a longer two-year warranty (instead of 90 days), and a yearly subscription to the company’s Kids+ service, which includes a range of kid-friendly audiobooks, games, music stations, and the like. As with the standard model, there are fairly robust parental controls. The quality of that Kids+ content can vary widely, and whether you’ll feel comfortable putting an Amazon speaker in your child’s bedroom is something only you can answer (there is a microphone mute button, though). The standard Echo Dot is the “best pick under $50” in our guide to the best smart speakers, and will almost certainly go on sale during Prime Day. But if you’ve been looking for an affordable music player and audiobook reader that your little one can control with their voice, look no further.

The Anker Soundcore Space A40 earbuds are back at a rock-bottom price of $59, which is a $21 saving from full price. Plus, the sound itself is pleasant and warm.

Our top pick for a Wi-Fi 6E mesh system is TP-Link’s Deco XE75. It’s currently on sale for just $290 for a set of three. And that’s after a 31 percent discount and a $20 clickable coupon. Combined, that’s the lowest price we’ve seen for the set yet. We like how it balances performance and ease of use, bringing fast connections to places in your home that may have been spotty before.
