Wu-Tang’s Grail Dunks may not be rare for much longer

Nike managed to make a splash on June 30th by sharing a cryptic post about a Nike sneaker that was infested with bees. The stinging insects left just enough of the shoe untouched to reveal a familiar black and yellow color scheme… and the Wu-Tang Clan logo on the heel.

Wait a minute, are Nike and the Wu-Tang Clan re-releasing their ultra-rare Dunks? It certainly looks like it.

In the Instagram post, Nike of course tagged Wu-Tang, the hip-hop music group consisting of RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

Wu-Tang has since re-shared Nike’s post with a link to a website that offers further details via a phone number.

The Wu-Tang x Nike Dunk High is considered one of the rarest and most coveted Dunks in sneaker history. Reportedly, only 36 pairs were made when the shoes were released in 1999.

Head Rager Travis Scott owns one.

Wu-Tang’s Dunks stand out not only because of their unicorn status, but also because of their design. The sneakers feature a crisp leather upper with a distinctive black and yellow color block design.

The band’s unforgettable logo is located on the heel and tongue, a historic symbol for a shoe that makes history.

To be honest, these are literally the “Varsity Maize” Dunks with Wu-Tang badges.

Given their grail status, Wu-Tang Dunks have naturally fetched five-figure sums on the used market, with a pair most recently selling for $50,000 on Justin Reed’s website.

Hopefully the Wu-Tang x Nike Dunks won’t cost as much when they return – well, if they return at all.

Sure, Nike’s mysterious message suggests that the shoes are coming back. However, neither brand has given an official confirmation of the re-release.

So let’s wait for now.

Nike continues to dig through its archives and brings back not only certified classics, but also formerly super-exclusive grails.

First, HUF revived its limited edition Air Max 1 sneakers, along with some unreleased versions. Then it was announced that Undefeated’s Jordan 4 sneakers would be returning, marking the return of the Jordan Brand’s first-ever collaboration, which only included 72 pairs.

Fans are divided over Nike’s revival of its most limited-edition sneakers. Some believe that the exclusive sneakers will become less rare and therefore less desirable. Others believe that this will diminish the “sacredness” of the shoes.
