Los Angeles Lakers reportedly make $32 million decision

Max Christie finishes his second season in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers.

He was set to become a restricted free agent this summer, but ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Lakers will re-sign him for $32 million.

Christie is coming off a season in which he averaged 4.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game in 67 games (seven starts), shooting 42.7% from the field and 35.6% from three-point range.

About Wojnarowski: “ESPN sources: Restricted free agent G Max Christie intends to sign a four-year, $32 million deal to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal includes a player option. Christie – the 35th pick in the 2022 draft – has shown promise as a future LA rotation player.”

Christie was selected 35th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Michigan State University.

Even though he was selected so late, the Lakers have done an excellent job developing him.

Besides, he is only 21 years old.

About Wojnarowski: “Christie’s agent Kevin Bradbury of @LiftSportsmngmt and Lakers GM Rob Pelinka negotiated a deal that keeps Christie out of restricted free agency. Christie has been a success story in the Lakers’ development.”

The Lakers are coming off a season in which they finished seventh in the Western Conference with a record of 47-35.

They beat the New Orleans Pelicans in the play-in tournament, but lost in the first round of the NBA playoffs (in five games) to Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets.

In the off-season rented JJ Redick will be their new head coach.
