The crime drama, directed by Jeff Nichols, will be available to stream online starting Tuesday, July 9, according to WhenToStream.

“The Bikeriders,” inspired by photojournalist Danny Lyon’s photo book of the same name, will be available via premium video on demand through Apple, Amazon, Google and other VOD providers.

The film, TV and pop culture X-account (formerly Twitter), Cinema Solace, shared the streaming release date with its followers, who were disgusted by the film studio’s impatience.

The Bikeriders was produced by New Regency and distributed by Focus Features.

“This is just crazy and completely wrong. If a movie doesn’t do the right things on opening weekend, it gets sent to streaming. Sad,” complained one user.

“This is absurd. 10 days. A Jeff Nichols film with Austin Butler and Tom Hardy. The studios are destroying the movie business. Period,” tweeted another.

“Why is the cinema being destroyed in this blatant manner?” asked a third.

A fourth commenter simply remarked: “How to destroy an industry.”

“Hey guys. Just shooting in the dark, but maybe teaching audiences not to see movies in theaters because they’ll be available to stream two weeks after their opening weekend isn’t such a good idea *looks at notes*? Just a thought!” argued one astute user.

The complaints continued to pour in. For example, one person complained: “Only 17 days after the theatrical release. Wow. What a huge mistake by Focus Features.”

“Is this a joke? Give the Bikeriders legs in the theater,” pleaded another.

“This is just ridiculous. The film has only been in theaters for less than a month and it’s already a movie,” agreed a third.

A fourth asked: “Give us a chance to see the film in the cinema.”

“I usually go to the movies with someone who often works on weekends; I only see movies on the second weekend at most.”

LONG STREET

The film was originally scheduled for a theatrical release by 20th Century Studios on December 1, 2023.

The release was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023 and Focus Features eventually acquired the film rights.

“The Bikeriders” chronicles the rise of Chicago’s Vandals Motorcycle Club, a fictionalized version of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club documented by Danny Lyon in his book.

Tom plays Johnny Davis, the leader of the Vandals, who was inspired to form the MC after seeing Marlon Brando in “The Wild One”.

Austin plays Benny Cross, a club member who fully embodies the idea of the “wild one” who is loyal to Johnny and the MC but refuses to be controlled by him, the club, or his wife Kathy.

Jodie plays Kathy Cross and acts as an intermediary for the audience into the world of motorcycle clubs.

She tells the story throughout the film in a series of interviews with Danny Lyon, played by 32-year-old “Challengers” star Mike Faist.

The rest of the cast consists of an ensemble of actors, including Michael Shannon, Norman Reedus, Damon Harriman and Boyd Holbrook.
