Rededication held and 44 names added to memorial for murder victims in Maine

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) – “People often say it means a lot to them to be able to participate in this annual event, and many of them were here today. For example, they attended the first unveiling of the memorial 11 years ago and were there for the first naming, some of them as members of their own families. And so they come year after year to pay homage to the families whose experience begins today,” explained Arthur Jette, co-leader of the Maine chapter of Parents of Murdered Children.

“We held our annual rededication of the memorial. Unfortunately, more names than ever had to be removed, but it is a place where we come together once a year. We hand out roses to bring comfort to those who have just had their loved ones taken from them,” said Vance Ginn, board member of Parents of Murdered Children.

“It’s the same circumstances when someone kills someone they love for their own, senseless reasons. I think that even with the enormity of a multiple murder, every family that mourns the loss of a loved one every day takes a very individual path,” added Jette.

“I’ve been here for nine years now. I lost my daughter nine years ago, so for me it’s been beneficial. We have our meetings every month, and everyone there is going through the same thing,” Ginn explained.
