“We will find his murderer,” as new pictures in the case show

UNION SPRINGS, Ala. (WRBL) – Investigators are releasing exclusive new images to WRBL as the hunt continues for the gunman who shot and killed Delvin Tarver, an 18-year-old Auburn High School 12th grader just weeks before his graduation. Delvin, known for his love of learning and compassionate spirit, was struck by a ricochet bullet during an altercation in which he was not involved. His family was devastated and the community mourned.

On Friday, WRBL met with Union Springs investigators to review surveillance video from the morning of the shooting, which took place in a Union Springs CVS parking lot on Baskin Street shortly before Delvin’s bright future was stolen. A fight ensued that Delvin was unaware of. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Bureau of Investigations is assisting in the case.

Now, nearly two months after the shooting, Union Springs investigators are asking the public for help in identifying the following people who were present at the shooting:

  1. Male, green shirt, gold or orange backpack, large necklace.

  2. Male, acid-wash jeans, dark shirt with a graphic of a possible King of Hearts playing card, black and white tennis shoes.

  3. Woman, long honey blonde hair, black shorts, lime green shoes, opening the rear passenger door of a white SUV.

  4. Male, dressed all in black, smoking or vaping.

  5. Male, looks like he is taking a selfie, white shirt, gold earring.

  6. Male, shoulder bag.

  7. Female, updo, khaki shorts, white shirt, black shoes.

Police are asking anyone who was in the parking lot before and during the shooting to come forward. If you recognize the people in the images and come forward, you can remain anonymous and receive a $1,500 reward if the information you provide leads to an arrest.

On Monday, July 1, the mayor of Union Springs will hold a press conference asking the public for help.

This tragedy is the second time Cynthia Quinn has had to bury a child. In 2006, her four-year-old daughter drowned in a horrific accident. Her anguish is palpable as she describes Delvin’s final moments.

“From what I understand, Delvin wasn’t feeling well, so he stayed in the car – he never got out – apparently there was an altercation where shots were fired – and he was hit by a ricochet bullet,” Cynthia said. “He said ‘mama’ and his last words were ‘mama’. He kept saying ‘mama’.”

Cynthia Quinn’s sister Sweetie Henderson shares her grief and urges anyone with information to come forward.

“I really, really want them to find it in their hearts, if they have anything Christlike in them, to step forward and give us peace and give my sister closure.”

Cynthia begs people who know something to say something.

“That’s fine. Don’t be afraid to tell the authorities that you saw something. Today it’s Delvin, but tomorrow it could be your brother, and he would demand the same justice for your brother.”

Union Springs Police are asking anyone with information to call 334-738-3131. Anonymous tips can be made to Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867). A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
