A 10-year-old girl is the only survivor of a shooting in Texas that authorities are classifying as a murder-suicide
A 10-year-old girl was seriously injured after her mother’s boyfriend allegedly shot her. Authorities are calling it a murder-suicide.
The shooting occurred at around 5 p.m. local time on May 30 at an apartment complex in Spring, Texas, according to a press conference held by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.
A 39-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl were involved in the incident, the sheriff’s office said.
The identities of the people have not yet been released, but authorities said the adult man was the adult woman’s boyfriend and the child was her daughter, local station ABC 13 reported.

All three suffered gunshot wounds, according to a post from Harris County, Texas, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The child was shot in the stomach and soon after summoned all her strength to call her grandmother for help, who then dialed 911, ABC 13 reported.
When officers arrived, they found the boyfriend dead and the mother unconscious, the sheriff’s office said. The mother received medical treatment but died at the scene.
The child was found in critical condition and flown by rescue helicopter to a nearby hospital, Spring Fire Department footage shows.
She underwent surgery immediately. According to ABC 13, authorities believe she will survive.
She is currently in the care of her grandmother, the outlet added.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Texas did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
After a preliminary investigation, the May 30 incident appeared to be the result of a “disturbance” between the adult male and female, Sergeant Greg Pinkins told reporters, adding that the 10-year-old appeared to have been “struck in the crossfire of the shooting.”
“Based on the initial information,” Sheriff Gonzalez repeated to X, “this appears to be a murder-suicide attempt.”

According to police, the mother’s boyfriend is the current suspect. Only one firearm was used, which was recovered at the crime scene.
Authorities also said investigators will look into whether there have been any previous incidents in the apartment unit where both the mother and her boyfriend lived.
No other people were injured in the shooting, authorities said.
