Obituary for Joanne Price (2024) – Waunakee, WI

Joanne Lynette Price

WAUNKAKEE/DEFOREST – Our beloved Joanne Lynette Price, age 85, passed away on May 30, 2024 at Ingleside Nursing Home in Mt. Horeb, WI, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Daughter of Burnette and Mildred Severson, Joanne graduated from Blanchardville High School, where she sang in the choir and was a cheerleader for four years. After graduating, she attended MATC in Madison, Wisconsin, where she earned a nursing degree and continued her career as a nurse at a Madison hospital. She married her husband, Jim Price (physical education teacher, athletic director, and coach) in 1957 and started a family soon after.

Joanne and her husband lived in Madison, Elroy, Brillion, Waunakee (for 41 years), and Deforest. Joanne became a stay-at-home mom when the first of her three children was born. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee and worked as a volunteer Sunday school teacher when her children were young. She also helped her husband run the summer park program in Waunakee. Joanne was heart and soul with her family, spending countless hours cheering on her children at their music and sporting events and her husband at his coaching events.

Her other passions included softball, bridge, bowling, raising Boston Terriers, and swing dancing. Joanne loved to travel. She and her family took numerous road trips and visited all the national parks and monuments west of the Mississippi.

In retirement, Joanne traveled to London and Hawaii with her husband, Jim, and took four cruises. During two ski seasons, they lived temporarily in Vale, Colorado. They worked part-time for the ski resort and traveled extensively on their days off. Joanne also loved music and sports. She and her husband enjoyed attending events at the Madison Overture Center and other venues near Milwaukee. They avidly followed the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers and attended many games over the years. Joanne’s fun-loving sense of humor and exceptionally kind, generous and loving nature touched many people throughout her life. We will always carry her memory in our hearts.

Joanne leaves behind her beloved husband of 66 years Jim Price, her sons Jeff and Tim, her daughter Sue, her grandchildren Nicolas and Alex and her great-grandchildren Parker and Emma. She also leaves behind her brothers Bernie and Dennis and her sister Karen.

There will be no wake, but a celebration of life may be planned for the future.

In her memory, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation for her research.
