CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus – Available options and their costs

Although the CX-70 looks very premium, the cost for a fully equipped model is not as high as you might expect. The top trim is called PHEV Premium Plus and costs $57,450, not including delivery fees or options. Since Mazda prefers to keep its options list simple, the Premium Plus trim gets virtually all the options offered.

Things like a digital rear view mirror, towing packages, running boards, a range of cargo management aids and even pet supplies can be selected. You can even add additional ambient lighting to make your CX-70 even more atmospheric during the night hours.

Range

490 miles (combined) / 25 miles (electric only)

Despite being a hybrid, the CX-70 PHEV offers more than enough power. Thanks to the combination of a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated inline four-cylinder engine and a 17.8 kWh PHEV system, the CX-70 PHEV produces 323 hp and 460 Nm of torque. Thanks to this torque, the CX-70 PHEV can tow a maximum of 2.2 tonnes when appropriately equipped.

The core idea of a hybrid is to maximize range between fuel stops without sacrificing performance, and here too the CX-70 excels, with an estimated maximum range of 790 miles.

You can also drive purely electrically. In this case, you can travel 25 miles in silent electric autonomy. According to EPA estimates, the CX-70 PHEV achieves a combined consumption of 56 MPGe.

To handle all that PHEV power, Mazda uses an e-SKYACTIV eight-speed automatic transmission. All CX-70s also come standard with all-wheel drive, so those of us living in colder climates don’t have to worry about a few inches of snow.

The CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus also has style

It’s obvious that Mazda has hit its coming-of-age phase recently. The edgy and futuristic looks we’ve become accustomed to over the past decade seem to have disappeared. Instead, you see a much more grown-up and grounded look with the new CX SUV range. Mazda has announced that it plans to go even more premium in 2022, and so far it has outdone each new model. However, being grown-up doesn’t mean being boring. Every angle of the CX-70 has a unique feel, and together they create an attractive exterior package.

Where do Mazda CX-30, CX-5, CX-50, CX-70 and CX-90 fit together?

The interior of the CX-70 tells a similar story. As we’ve discussed before, Mazda combined old-world Japanese elements with modern design to create a special feel in the cabin that isn’t found in other vehicles in this price range.

The difference between the CX-70 and CX-90 is also apparent inside. The CX-90 has three rows of seats, while the CX-70 has only two. Despite losing a row of seats, the CX-70 offers the same amount of cargo space, with a maximum of 75.3 cubic feet of space for whatever you need to haul.

If you need a third row of seats, the CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus is also worth the price. Almost every option we discussed on the CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus is also available on its big sibling, except you have the option to add a few more premium paint colors.

You also get the same 2.5-liter PHEV powertrain, eight-speed transmission, and standard all-wheel drive. And even better, despite the extra weight, the CX-90 PHEV offers the same range, MPGe, and all-electric range as the CX-70 PHEV, so you don’t have to compromise to go bigger.

The CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus costs $58,905, meaning the jump from the CX-70 to the CX-90 is just $1,455. In short, Mazda has two capable, spacious and attractive PHEV SUVs for sale.
