18-year-old allegedly disposed of murder weapon used to kill Lincoln teenager

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – An 18-year-old is now behind bars after police say he discarded the murder weapon used to kill a Lincoln teenager last month.

Guy Alkafaji of Lincoln is charged with aiding and abetting premeditated murder.

Lincoln police were called to a home near North 64th and Adams Streets in the early morning hours of May 19. Officers found Sawyer with two stab wounds to the chest. The teen later died at the hospital.

14-year-old Stephen “Max” D’Amore was arrested at the scene on suspicion of first-degree murder.

After his arrest, the police conducted numerous interrogations and searches as part of their investigation.

They led them to Alkafaji, who was questioned on May 22. However, according to court documents, he denied taking the knife. He was finally arrested on Wednesday.

Police allege D’Amore gave Alkafaji the knife used in the murder and disposed of it somewhere near Gregory Avenue and Strauss Court. Officers believe D’Amore also gave the 18-year-old several marijuana vaporizers to dispose of when he disappeared from the scene.
