Baytown woman arrested for leaving two children in locked car while getting her nails done

Baytown, Texas – A Baytown woman was arrested on suspicion of leaving two children in a locked car while she got her nails done on a hot day.

28-year-old Lydia Monique Aviles is accused of two counts of abandonment of a child with the intent to return her.

According to court documents, Aviles left two children under the age of 15 in a locked vehicle without adequate air conditioning on a hot day on Friday.

According to Baytown police, Aviles left the two children in the car for about an hour while she got her nails done at a salon. While the car was running, authorities said the air conditioning wasn’t strong enough to cool the entire vehicle.

“Upon arrival, officers observed the children, one in a car seat and the other moving around the vehicle. Although the air conditioning was on, it was not enough to cool the entire vehicle,” the department said.

KPRC 2 reporter Corley Peel spoke to a salon employee who asked to remain anonymous. She said the salon was full when Aviles came in.

“She just came in and we quickly put the paint on her toes and refilled them. Suddenly the police opened the door and called her name and she immediately went outside,” the employee said.

According to court documents, Aviles has since been released from jail on $20,000 bail.
