NBA Mock Draft 2024 for Round 2: Bronny James and Jamal Shead find a home; Bucks get Kyle Filipowski

The first round of the 2024 NBA Draft is behind us. For the first time, the second round will take place on its own day.

Thirty future NBA players had their dreams come true on Wednesday, and 28 more will have their dreams come true on Thursday. The second round begins at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN as teams try to find the hidden gems of this draft class.

All eyes will be on where USC guard Bronny James ends up, but college stars like Duke’s Kyle Filipowski and Marquette’s Tyler Kolek are still in the running.

This is a good time to remind you that current and future Hall of Famers like Manu Ginobili, Nikola Jokic and Draymond Green were all second-round picks in their respective drafts. Even current NBA stars like Knicks guard Jalen Brunson were taken after the first round.

What will the second round look like in 2024? The Sporting News predicts the rest of the draft below.

NBA Mock Draft 2024 for Round 2

Bronny James 04022024

31. Raptors (via DET): Tyler Kolek, G, Marquette

The Raptors need more depth on defense behind Immanuel Quickley, and Kolek is a reliable playmaker who can fill that void. He’s a patient playmaker and powerful scorer who would add a stabilizing presence to Toronto’s bench.

32. Jazz (via WAS): Kevin McCullar, G, Kansas

McCullar was once a projected first-round pick before a season-ending knee injury affected his draft value. The 6-6 guard can fill multiple roles as an NBA-ready playmaker and versatile defender.

33. Bucks (via POR): Kyle Filipowski, F, Duke

It’s shocking that Filipowski slipped to the second round, but the Bucks should capitalize. The 6-11 sophomore is a space-covering big man who can play pick and pop, score with his back to the basket, handle the ball and pass.

34. Trail Blazers (via CHA): Johnny Furphy, F, Kansas

Furphy was another expected first-round pick who made it to Day 2. He made just 35.2 percent of his 3-pointers as a rookie, but he had good streaks that showed his abilities as a 6-foot-8 forward with sharpshooting skills.

35. Spurs: KJ Simpson, G, Colorado

Simpson is listed at just 6’1″, but his playmaking ability is undeniable. The junior from Colorado is a balanced playmaker who makes game-winning plays. He would fit well on a Spurs team in need of defensive depth.

36. Pacers (via TOR): Tyler Smith, F, G League Ignite

Smith also caused quite a stir in the first round, but fell on Day 2 of the draft. Smith is a 7’10” forward with a lot of ground clearance who fits the mold of a big in today’s NBA.

37. Timberwolves (via MEM): Harrison Ingram, F, North Carolina

Any win-now team with a second-round pick should have Ingram on their draft list. The North Carolina forward is a big and versatile defender, a top-notch rebounder and shot an improved 38.5 percent from the three-point line last season.

38. Knicks (via UTA): Oso Ighodaro, F, Marquette

Ighodaro reminds me of Trayce Jackson-Davis, the Warriors’ 2023 second-round pick. He can play at the four or five as a mobile and athletic 6-9 big with long arms and a high defensive IQ.

39. Grizzlies (via BKN): Trey Alexander, G, Creighton

Alexander is somewhere between a wing and a combo guard, standing at 6-3 with a 6-10 wingspan. He can shoot from the 3 or mid-range, has improved as a passer, and is a pesky defender on the ball.

40. Trail Blazers (via ATL): Bobi Klintman, F, Cairns Taipans (Australia)

Klintman is a tall and athletic forward at 6’1″. The 21-year-old has 3-and-D potential, but only made 33.7 percent of his 3-point shots in Australia’s NBL last season.

41. 76ers (via CHI): Pelle Larsson, F, Arizona

Larsson is a great fit for any team that needs a shooter. The 6’5″ winger made 42.6 percent of his three-pointers last season and works hard on defense.

42. Hornets (via HOU): Justin Edwards, F, Kentucky

Edwards was a top-five prospect in the country entering his freshman season at Kentucky. The 6-foot-10 athletic left-hander never made it in the NCAA, but there’s no denying the untapped potential here.

43. Heat: Nikola Djurisic, F, Mega Basket (Serbia)

Djurisic is an offensive-minded 6-7 wing scorer. He is a confident shot-maker but only made 33 percent of his 3s last season, which leaves room for improvement.

44. Rockets (via GSW): Jalen Bridges, F, Baylor

Bridges embodies a 3-and-D wing in today’s NBA with a height of 6’7″ and a wingspan of 6’10”. His career-best 41.2% of his 3-pointers earned him a high draft value at Baylor last season.

45. Kings: PJ Hall, F, Clemson

Hall is a 6-foot-10, physical forward who could play small-ball five at the NBA level. He averaged 18.3 points and 6.4 rebounds at Clemson last season.

46. Clippers (via IND): Cam Spencer, F, UConn

Spencer was a key part of UConn’s national championship-winning team as a point forward, and his IQ, feel for the game and will to win will earn him a draft choice somewhere in the second round.

47. Magic: Cam Christie, F, Minnesota

Christie is the younger brother of Lakers guard Max Christie and is looking to follow the same path to the NBA that sees him play just once a season. He is a sharpshooter with great potential who made 39.1 percent of his 3s as a rookie in Minnesota.

48. Spurs (via LAL): Melvin Ajinca, F, Saint-Quentin (France)

Ajinca is a promising 20-year-old prospect from the same French league as No. 1 picks Victor Wembanyama and Zaccharie Risacher. He is a 6’7″ left-handed striker with potential as a 3-and-D wing.

— 76ers forfeited second-round pick

49. Pacers (via CLE): Tristen Newton, F, UConn

Newton was the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after averaging 14.5 points, 7.2 assists and 4.0 rebounds en route to the national title. He’s a versatile defender and game-winning forward who’s willing to do the little things that go into winning.

50. Pacers (via NOP): Ajay Mitchell, G, UC Santa Barbara

A creative playmaker and a 6-3 combo guard who scores points, Mitchell could be a steal if he gets into the right situation and gets playing time in the backcourt.

51. Knicks (via WAS): Jamal Shead, G, Houston

Shead would be a dream partner for Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau. The Houston star is a physical perimeter defender who is coming off a successful season and was named Big 12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

52. Warriors (via MIL): Keshad Johnson, F, Arizona

Johnson is a super-athletic forward at 6’10”. His offensive skills still need to be improved, but he is a dangerous slasher with the potential to be a versatile defender.

53. Pistons (via NYK): Antonio Reeves, G, Kentucky

Reeves can just shoot the ball. The Kentucky transfer made 44.7 percent of his 188 attempts from the three-point line and at least 39 percent of his long-range shots in his final three college seasons.

54. Celtics (via DAL): Trentyn Flowers, F, Adelaide 36ers (Australia)

Flowers is a 6’1″ winger with promising offensive skills. Wherever he ends up, he will be a developmental project, but there is still untapped potential that can be tapped into.

55. Lakers (via LAC): Bronny James, G, USC

All eyes will be on James on the second day of the NBA Draft. Several teams reportedly have interest in LeBron’s son in the second round, but most likely others will be held back so the Lakers can select him with this pick.

56. Suns (via DEN): Jonathan Mogbo, F, San Francisco

Mogbo is a beast with a ripped frame at 6’1″ and 215 pounds. He is a physical defender and a downhill scorer with good passing skills, but he is not a shooter. Mogbo has attempted just two three-point shots in two Division I college seasons.

57. Grizzlies (via OKC): Adem Bona, C, UCLA

A big presence on the interior at 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds, Bona is an athletic center who can defend the basket, attack the glass and pose a threat as a lob target rolling off the blocks.

— Suns forfeited second-round pick

58. Mavericks (via BOS): Juan Nunez, G, Ulm (Germany)

A 20-year-old Spanish point guard with intelligent passing skills, Nunez is a pick-and-roll maestro who averaged an impressive 10.4 points and 5.8 assists per game for Ulm this season.
