As people prepare for barbecues and family gatherings in the lead-up to the Fourth of July, several communities in the Detroit area will be hosting festivals, carnivals, concerts and fireworks this weekend. Car lovers can look forward to the Fort Street Cruise in Downriver as well as a car show on the Livonia Spree.

Here are some things to do the weekend of June 28-30.

Cars under the stars – spectacular fireworks

Enjoy fireworks from the motorsports track with live entertainment, family games and demonstrations, food trucks and craft beer at this event presented by Coca-Cola.

The fireworks are expected to begin at 9:45 p.m.

The event will be held Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the M1 Concourse, 45399 Woodward Ave. in Pontiac. General admission starts at $30, and tickets can be purchased online at the M1 Concourse.

Fort Street Cruise 2024

Car enthusiasts can enjoy the diverse selection of vehicles including vintage cars, classic cars, custom cars, modern muscle cars, exotic cars, souped-up vehicles and other interesting vehicles as they drive down Fort Street through several Downriver communities.

The cruise will take place on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. along Fort Street from Southfield Road and Sibley Road and passes through Lincoln Park, Southgate, Wyandotte and Riverview.

Trenton Summer Festival

There will be craft stalls, food trucks, a beer tent and a kids’ corner, as well as three stages of live entertainment including Mad Mad World, Shakedown, Dishwalla, Vendors, Mega 80s, Foxound and more. There will be a fireworks display at 10pm on Saturday.

The festival takes place Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 2800 Third St. in Trenton.

Taylor Summer Festival

This festival presented by the Taylor Rotary Club features concerts by 38 Special, April Wine, The Hideaways and Dave Fio. Enjoy a brand new drone show at nightfall on Friday and fireworks on Saturday.

Gates open at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Heritage Park, 12111 Pardee Road, Taylor. Concert tickets are $30 in advance ($35 day of show) for reserved seating and $15 in advance ($10 day of show) for standing room. The fireworks display is free.

Livonia Spree

This annual event includes an amusement park, food, games, live entertainment, a beer tent, petting zoo, kids’ zone, car show, fireworks and more.

Enjoy performances by Rude Dogs, Sunset Blvd, Steve King and the Dittilies, Atomic Radio Band and more.

The fireworks display is planned for Sunday at dusk (around 10:15 p.m.).

The festival takes place Friday from 2pm-11pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-11pm at 33841 Lyndon Street in Livonia.
