Peacock has announced “Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock,” a new service that uses artificial intelligence to offer personalized highlight videos from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. With this feature, subscribers will receive customized daily recaps narrated by the AI-generated voice of sports commentator Al Michaels.

Using generative AI and speech synthesis technology, Peacock creates daily 10-minute highlight compilations tailored to the user’s individual preferences. These recaps feature snippets of NBCU’s coverage of the Games, narrated by an AI that replicates Michaels’ voice and is trained on his previous broadcasts.

Subscribers can access this feature starting July 27 by visiting Peacock’s Olympic Hub and selecting their favorite sports and topics, such as top competitions, behind-the-scenes stories, trending moments and international team highlights.

AI technology creates a personalized playlist that summarizes the previous day’s most important events and previews upcoming highlights from NBC’s primetime show. Each user can get a recap tailored to their interests, with the service supporting up to six profiles per account.

“Peacock continues to introduce unique customer-focused features that reinforce our leadership position in live streaming,” said Kelly Campbell, president of Peacock and direct-to-consumer, NBCUniversal. “With these recaps, as well as interactive elements like Peacock Live Actions and Discovery Multiview, we are combining sports and technology to deliver a personalized Olympics experience.”

Al Michaels was initially skeptical about the project. “When I was approached about it, I was skeptical but curious,” Michaels said. “Then I saw a demonstration that explained in detail what they were planning to do. I said, ‘I’m in.'”

Michaels’ AI-generated voice is designed to provide viewers with a familiar listening experience and reinforce the personalized nature of the recaps. NBCU editors review all content for quality assurance before recaps are made available to users.

Peacock expects to stream nearly 7 million personalized versions of “Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock” during the U.S. Games. These recaps will be accessible in supported web browsers including Chrome, Firefox, MS Edge and Safari, as well as the Peacock app for iOS and iPadOS devices.
